How the stock average calculator works

Add a row for each purchase and enter its price per share and quantity. You can also enter an existing holding as one row using its average price and total shares. The calculator weights each price by its number of shares, rather than taking a simple average of the two prices.

Formula

Average price = Σ (price × quantity) ÷ total shares

Example

Buying 100 shares at 100 and another 50 shares at 80 gives a total cost of 14,000 for 150 shares. The weighted average price is 93.33 per share.

Assumptions and limits

Use the same currency for every purchase. Purchase fees, taxes, dividends, stock splits, and sales are not included. Prices and costs display two decimal places; share quantities retain up to six decimal places; calculations use unrounded values.
